PSPS Membership FAQ

What is Pacific Spine and Pain Society?

While PSPS is geared towards Pain Management specialists, our goal was to be inclusive for all professionals that have an interest in the field of Interventional Spine and Pain Management - this includes colleagues from the fields of Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Rheumatology, Neurology, Psychiatry, Primary Care. We did this with the understanding that the field of Pain Management as we know it now has evolved well beyond simply prescribing opioids and epidurals. Pain Management training has adopted a multi-disciplinary approach with focus on the musculoskeletal, pharmacological and psychosocial aspects of patient care. Additionally, newer technologies have now afforded us the opportunity to interact with specialists outside our own field, including but not limited to the realms Neuromodulation and Minimally Invasive Spinal Procedures. The lines of “What is Pain Management?” have certainly become less clear, thus making it all the more important to collaborate with specialists who share the sames types of patients.

What Level of Training Do I Need to Be to Join?

To be clear, there is NO level of training required to join the organization. Although we are an physician-lead organization, we also welcome physician assistants, nurse practitioners, therapists, fellows, residents, medical students to join. We do this understanding the importance of each member of the treatment team.

Why Pacific?

We intended to create a regional community, focused on the Western United States. The society presently includes the states of California, Washington, Utah, Hawaii, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada but we invite members from all parts of the United States to become active participants and members.

Why Should I Join PSPS?

Membership allows primary access to ongoing dialogue and events from the leaders within the field of Spine and Pain Medicine. This includes access to our live cadaver courses, annual conference, and digital content which includes training webinars and our very own podcast. Presently we have made our content accessible to the general public but will in the future there will be Member-Only content available through our website.
We also recognize that an organization is only as good as its active membership. Joining PSPS also affords an opportunity for members to collaborate with the over 800 registered members of PSPS on a consistent basis. We want to create an avenue where professionals can interact with each other, learn from each other, and establish lasting professional relationships for years to come. Membership is FREE for the first year. We did this to eliminate any financial burden to join and give everyone a chance to see what we were about.
